Whole wheat buttermilk lemon muffins

One of my favorite times to bake is a lazy weekend morning – a morning with no reservations at spin class or a goal for miles to run, with no 10 a.m. obligations to be at work or someone’s house, or too many errands to run. I love spending time in the kitchen with natural light (my camera likes that too), baking in pajamas and with no thoughts about even coming near a hair brush. NPR or maybe some new Fleet Foxes on the speakers, mug of latte at hand.  (See entry Weekend Mornings, in “Utopian visions of what Bowen’s life should be like” Vol. II.)

In need of some dinner to go with our ham-and-eggs leftovers dinner plans, I picked up for the first time our copy of 100 Great Breads by Paul Hollywood, which I chose out of a bookstore sale bin one day a couple of years ago. You already have a sense of my hesitancy for those types of books, but every book on the shelf deserves a good chance (besides, I’ve got this pesky List to deal with). Read more

Maybe I should try something other than pasta …

It’s happened again. Another dish made for the purposes of the list, another thing I’m not ready to share because it just wasn’t that great. (Another use of the “disappointment” tag I started to give myself a chuckle and was hoping wouldn’t surface again.) It didn’t make me immediately made me scroll through my mental calendar to figure out when I could make again, which is what normally happens with the items I write about. Read more
